When cooking steaks and burgers, there’s various levels of doneness. Rare. Medium Rare. Medium. Well done.
And meat thermometer is always a safe bet. But did you know you can use your palm to help gauge meat doneness?

INGREDIENTS
DIRECTIONS
Press your thumb and pointer finger together.
Note the base of your thumb, that squishy thumb pad of the palm, gently poke with your other hand/pointer finger. There should be little resistance. Soft, but has a little firmness- this would be your gauge for the meat. This shows the rare temperature.
As you press your thumb to each of your fingers, keep poking the pad at the base of the thumb. As you get to the thumb + pinky connection the pad will feel more firm. This shows the gauge for well done.
When your cooking you can use the tongs or spatula to “press” the meat. The give or resistance will show you the doneness. Like the thumb pad on the palm of your hand.
The more you use the method, the better you’ll get to gauging the doneness of the meat and become a pro, cooking meat to your friends preferences!
